Do you have conflict?

Sergey has been with us for a week now and he has become much more comfortable sharing things from his past (we only really know that his parents have passed away).

On Thursday we were all in my office while he was studying English and he told us that he wanted to ask us a tough question. Hey typed it into the iPad and reluctantly showed us the question, "Do you have conflict?" We reassured that we loved each other and that there was no conflict in this house. We asked him a follow up question if there was conflict in his family when they were alive. He told us that there were drug and alcohol problems and that he was somewhat neglected. He then shrugged his shoulders as to say "what are you going to do?" This broke our hearts! We had assumed that this was the case and Sergey confirmed our thoughts. Seriously, how could such a great boy come out of such a tough environment? From then on if anything got tense (mainly while playing video games) we all would say "No Conflict" and laugh and move on.

  1. So sad, but amazing, like you said, that he has become such a great person anyway out of those circumstances. -Leesha
